ICV Surgery Checklist
Autoclave
- autoclavable blue box containing at least 1 pair of very fine forceps
- screws and cannulae
- fishing weight retractors
- 1 cloth drape
- 1 stainless box (wrapped in a cloth drape) containing:
- at least 1 pair of coarse forceps
- at least 1 pair of fine blue forceps
- sharp-sharps & blunt-sharps
- staple puller & stapler
- drill bit for Dremel (2.3 mm)
- needle holders
- scalpel handle
- box of icv caps
- 2 glass dishes (for 10% bleach and 70% EtOH)
- 2-500 ml beakers (for saline)
- 2-500 ml bottles of physiologic saline
- cotton swabs
- gauze squares
- staples
Other Materials
Pre-Operative
- gauze squares
- stereotax apparatus
- eye ointment
- betadine and 70% EtOH in wash bottles
- clippers
- dustbuster
- cover gowns and masks
- appropriately sized sterile surgical gloves
Intra-Operative
- sterile disposable drapes
- absorbent pads (at least 2)
- lab tape
- 500 ml 10% bleach
- 500 ml 70% EtOH
- #10 scalpel blades
- fishing weights for retraction
- hydrogen peroxide
- super glue gel
- Dremel
- 2 manual hand drills
- gel foam
- tubing for “washers”
- screw driver
- swabs with wooden handles
- Pasteur pipette and bulb
- denture materials (powder and solvent)
- 3 cc syringes, 25 ga needles
- 2-0 vicryl
Post-Operative
- microwave
- hot packs
- 20 cc syringes, 21 ga needles
- 5% dextrose
Clean Up
Clean instruments that are autoclaved with enzymatic cleaner, and soak in instrument milk for at least 10 minutes. Do not rinse. Dry other instruments with EtOH.
