Medulla by volume: 63% chromaffin (catecholamine) cells, 20% vasculature, 5% neural, 12% interstitial

Medulla number of cells (unilateral):

• 11.1 x10⁵ total cells

• 5 x10⁵ epinephrine cells (TH & PNMT)

• 2 x 10⁵ norepinephrine cells (TH)
